"Materials engineering is a truly multidisciplinary field. Being an educator has given me the opportunity to be constantly learning new ideas and concepts," said Krishnan.

Krishnan has made a name for himself as a high-caliber educator. He wrote and published two foundational textbooks that have been adopted for teaching at major research universities worldwide. His discoveries in magnetic materials and materials characterization have applications ranging from information technology to biomedicine, and he founded a start-up company to bring those applications into real-world practice. He is a highly sought-after guest lecturer at academic institutions around the globe. Generations of MSE students have been taught by him, and he has been proud to watch them pursue successful careers, carrying on the tradition of multidisciplinary research into the future.

"As an MSE educator, I try to communicate to my students not only the richness of opportunities that the field provides but also impress upon them the kind of rigorous preparation it takes to be successful over a 40-year career," he said.

The award will be formally presented at the TMS-AIME Awards Ceremony in March.
